It was 1887 when a civil war veteran by the name of Daniel Hoyt began a Sunday School in what is now the Britain Square Area of Worcester MA. As an American Baptist Minister, Hoyt started several Sunday Schools in different areas, but the Britain Square class proved most successful. As a result the American Baptist Society decided to invest their efforts in a church plant in this fruitful part of Lincoln St. The result was the organization of the Adams Square Baptist Church incorporated 1889. Daniel Hoyt pastored this church for the first ten years. The Original building was purchased by the church from the American Baptist society for one dollar.
Adams Square Baptist Church, though now a fully independent Baptist Church and no longer affiliated with the American Baptist Society, has always maintained a strict Biblical perspective and desire to serve God through the teaching and preaching of His Word. The church has always and still holds a deep desire to see lives changed through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Our aggressive world wide missions program is a result of members who understand the great commission of our Lord as mentioned in Matthew 28:19-20.
We are an inner city ministry with a heart for the people of our community. We use the Bible as our sole rule of faith and not the traditions of men. Our worship services are God centered and use Scripture, song, and Prayer to bring all people into a closer relationship with Him. Our messages while contemporary in application and illustration, are deeply doctrinal and instructive in context. The music of our church is eclectic pulling from Traditional Hymns, Choruses, and Praise Songs. We believe that the music of the church should be deeply spiritual and moving, effecting our intellect and emotions. Thus, our musicians use different styles appropriate and relevant to the worship of God. We are neither traditional nor contemporary exclusively, but draw from both to provide a truly uplifting and worshipful experience.
